Soca artistes Machel Montano, Benjai, Shall Marshall and Kernel Roberts are to be questioned by Belmont police following an incident outside Club Zen yesterday morning which left a patron, Russell Pollonaise with injuries.
Gyasi Gonzales and Kristy RamnarinePolice said around 2 a.m, Russell Pollonaise, 24, and several friends were liming at the club when one of Pollonaise's friends spilled a drink on a woman with whom soca artiste Machel Montano was dancing.
It is alleged that there was an altercation following which Zen's security officers ordered Pollonaise and his friend out of the club. Belmont police said Machel Montano, Shall Marshal, Benjai and Kernel Roberts followed the men outside the club where the argument continued.
It is alleged that Pollonaise's head was slammed against the fender of a white station wagon parked outside the popular nightspot. Pollonaise was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition yesterday.
Pollonaise said: "I don't want to make any comment because right now my head, back and shin bone hurting me. I ain't want to say anything, I in real pain right now don't even call my family."
A relative said that Pollonaise said some men started beating his friend who had spilled the drink on the unidentified woman earlier. Pollonaise came to his friend's defence when the men turned on him.
He also told his relative that all he remembered was that four men approached him and started beating him. Pollonaise said he does not remember anything after that because he became unconscious. Pollonaise was at the club with several relatives of his girlfriend, most of whom are from the United Kingdom.
With his left eye still puffy from the blows he received he was not able to tell his relatives where his friends were at the time of the beating. This is not the first time that Machel Montano has been accused of being involved in an altercation like this, as he was accused to be part of one during Carnival last year with Dawg E Slaughter.
