Two weeks after her abduction, Debbie Ali was released yesterday after her family paid a ransom for her freedom.
By Richard CharanPolice said she was injured by her kidnappers and was treated at hospital.
Ali was said to be taumatised, dehydrated and had lost weight.
The thugs wanted TT$1 million but it is unknown how much money was paid.
Ali, 31, was released at Cadiz Road, Belmont, Port of Spain, at 4 a.m. She was treated at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope and reunited with her children, aged five and seven, at a relative's home.
Her husband, pilot Ashmeed Ali, could not be reached for comment. Relatives at the family's home at Roystonia Gardens, Couva, declined to speak.
Police said Ali was released not far from where she was being kept.
Several suspects have been identified and police believe they know the motive for the abduction. She was kidnapped from her home on December 5.
The family believe that the culprits who broke into the home had intended to steal but decided to kidnap Ali, a former primary school teacher.
Ashmeed Ali had begged for his wife to be freed, speaking about her fragile mental state, medical problems and the toll it had taken on their children.
Ali was one of the BWIA employees sent home during its recent transformation.
He raised ransom money and asked that the kidnappers accept it and set Ali free before Christmas.
