Beenie Man is strongly denying the theory from the police that the murder of his brother Brian Smith on Saturday may have been a reprisal killing for the 2005 slaying of popular dancer Bogle.
The deejay, who visited THE STAR, had much to say about the police's attempt to link the murders, which was reported in THE STAR yesterday under the heading 'Reprisal for Bogle's death?'"When me see this (the headline), it hurt me. Me can't go to Jungle again because of this. All because the police give false information say is my brother (Brian Smith) involve innah Bogle death," the deejay said. "My brother was no saint, but me haffi a investigate it myself because a my brother dead. Ah nuh di police brother dead."
Smith, 32, who was one of the first persons questioned following Bogle's death last year, was shot dead in Pinto District, St. Andrew, at about 11:10 p.m. on Saturday while he was standing among several persons at a piazza. He was approached by a group of men, who reportedly attacked him, shooting and stabbing him several times. He died at the Kingston Public Hospital, while being treated.
When THE STAR contacted detectives from the St. Andrew North Homicide Unit yesterday, an officer said that the police have received information that Smith had a confrontation with a group of men earlier in the evening, a few hours before he was killed.
The officer, who also said that they were following this lead, pointed out that they have heard other rumours associated with Smith's death.
Beenie said yesterday, however, that he was convinced that his brother's death was associated with the conflict he had earlier that day. "Dah day deh, Brian box down ......... (name removed) up innah di hill and den latah dah same day deh, dem come back and kill him innah di same place," he said.
"Brian is not a youth wha people really know wha him live and dem thing deh. Is only if you round him and you and him a friend, you know where to find him ... Brian and ........ (name removed) move round the same set of man dem."
The deejay said; "Everything happen to me or my family, dem say is because of Bogle death. If Blue (another brother) dead tomorrow, dem a go say is because of Bogle death? When Bogle dead me and Brian, who was the brother that people heard me talking about, me and him up ah di yard after (the dance) and den me hear say dem kill Bogle."
