Deejay Turbulence has denied claims that he was a 'no-show' at Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest 2006.
Even though organisers say that he should have performed on 'Storm Front' night, Thursday, July 20, Turbulence says he was not booked for the event."Wi never come to a final agreement, suh is not a 'no-show', mi neva know mi on Sumfest until somebody call mi 'bout two days before di event," Turbulence told THE STAR.
He even went further to say, "Mi nuh know 'bout no deposit either, an' mi waan apologise to di people a Mobay, sorry about not coming to di show, but it wasn't my fault, cause mi did well waan perform, but dem neva tell mi nutt'n, dem wait too late fi mek mi know wa a gwaan."
In a telephone interview with THE STAR, executive director of Summerfest Productions, Johnny Gourzong, however, said that Turbulence's claim was "absolute nonsense. I can show you a copy of the contract that we did with 'Fatis', so he maybe needs to go and contact his manager. We dealt with his manager directly. I didn't see his manager there on the Thursday night, but I saw him on the Friday and he apologised, saying they (Turbulence) had some car trouble and promised that they would refund us as quickly as possible."
Another Sumfest official, Robert Russell, the chairman of Summerfest Productions, said that Turbulence's failure to show up might very well have gone down as the show's first case of a 'no-show' in its 14-year history.
First in history
"We have had occasions where artistes have been late, but to the best of my knowledge, none have been a no-show," Russell said.
The annual week-long Sumfest show was staged between July 16-22 and featured local acts such as Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Sizzla and Busy Signal along with international artistes such as Missy Elliott and 50 Cent.
Turbulence leaves the island today for shows in Tampa and Orlando, Florida and will return to the island next week to continue working on two new videos, I Am Sorry and Mama featuring Higher Trod.
