A barrage of bottles, stones and gunshots ended a weekend show in the east after a verbal onslaught on dancehall act Beenie Man by new kids on the block Twin of Twins sparked patrons wrath.
Bling Dawg's 'Summer Jam' which started as a fun-filled night punctuated with rain, was brought to a premature end at Sommerset Falls, Portland, on Sunday morn.Twin of Twins, who took the stage after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, got their act dismissed soon after their twin bashing of Beenie Man. In recent months there has been an ongoing war of words between the two dancehall acts. Late last month the twins released a single lashing out at Beenie Man called Dread Gone Mad.
At Sommerset Falls, Beenie Man, who was not billed for the show and not at the venue, came under strong criticism from the twins who alleged that the artiste was playing 'God to the music industry'. But the more than 10,000 strong crowd was not pleased and booed the twins, who reacted by hurling expletives at the irate patrons.
It was then that bottles and other missiles were hurled on-stage, which forced the twins to flee the stage. Less than a minute later a barrage of gunshots rang out and patrons, fearing for their lives, dived for cover; others left the venue.
Deejay Bounty Killer went on-stage to restore calm but after less than five minutes of performing, he too had to flee as bottles and stones were also hurled at him by the angry patrons who remained.
Bling Dawg, the promoter of the event, expressed disappointment about the incident. He said it was unfortunate and apologised to the fans.
