Employees of the Atlantic LNG plant at Point Fortin were evacuated yesterday for the second time in three days when a report of an explosion was made to the Control Room.
By Louis B HomerOn investigation it turned out that an employee of Damus was injured when a plug released under pressure struck him.
The incident occurred around 10.12 a.m. while the employee was working on a temporary eight isolation plug filled with inert gas.
Last Friday the plant was shut down for about six hours when a natural gas leak was discovered.
The company had reported that the leak was discovered on a two-inch pipeline at Train 2 facility but no one was injured.
In yesterday's incident the injured employee was taken to Atlantic's first aid station for treatment and to the Point Fortin Area hospital.
The company said in a statement that the employee was later taken to Gulf View Medical Complex, La Romaine, that the noise heard by employees yesterday was "that of the plug being released and not an explosion."
It said that according to safety procedures when the Control Room activates the siren all personnel must evacuate the plant.
