A woman was among eight people shot in a 17-hour period between Tuesday and mid-afternoon yesterday in Trinidad.

With the last murder taking place just before 2 p.m. yesterday, the homicide toll was recorded at 33.
Comparatively, there has been a 73.6 per cent increase in murders this year over the same period last year, which recorded 14 homicides.
The first of the murders took place at Calvary Hill, Arima, when Marlon Jeremy, 31, was shot dead around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, with Brendol St Rose, 22, being shot dead when he attempted to rob a security guard, who was also shot.
This double-shooting took place around 9.45 p.m. near the corner of Ariapita Avenue and Cornelio Street.
The Sentinel Security Ltd guard was on duty at a nearby casino when, walking to his car, he was held up at gunpoint by St Rose, who demanded he hand over his money.
The guard resisted and St Rose shot him in his right leg. However, the guard returned fire and shot the Quarry Street, Diego Martin, resident five times, killing him on the spot.
The guard is in hospital.
Hours later, Kimola Adams, 24, became the second murder victim when he was shot and killed outside his house.
Around 1 a.m., gunshots were heard at the back of his Trou Macaque, Laventille, home and when relatives looked, they found Adams dead.
About four and a half hours later, Tony Najar, 37, murdered his wife Denise Najar, 32, at their Heights of Guanapo home. Nagar then shot himself. (See story on this page.)
Then around 1.30 p.m., a man identified as Sherwyn McIntosh was murdered at Mentor Alley, Laventille. (See story on this page.)
Another man, Davey Williams, was also shot and injured.
January has already seen a record number of homicides and the 17-hour period between Tuesday night and yesterday has so far been the most violent.
