One youth was kidnapped, while another man was shot dead and a woman shot with multiple injuries after a man used her as a human shield.

Gloria Mollick, 66, was shot four times when a man used her as a shield during a daylight gun attack in Port of Spain yesterday, police said.

The man, Osbourne Sylvester, 25, was shot five times despite using Mollick as human cover from the barrage of bullets.

Both were undergoing life-saving surgery at the Port of Spain General Hospital up to press time last night.

Last night doctors told Mollick's family that she was "out of danger" and that they had concentrated on stitching her liver, intestines and diaphragm that were ruptured by bullets.

They did not remove any of the four bullets.

Meanwhile, a Carenage man was gunned down at the front of his home. Shawn Dehere, 29, alias "Smokes" of Abbe Poujade Street, Carenage, was shot when two men dressed in what were said to be school and CEPEP uniforms shot and killed him.

Last but not least, the son of a St James businessman was kidnapped on Monday night in the presence of his daughter and girlfriend.

According to police reports, around 9.30 p.m. Anil Singh, 18, of Bombay Street, St James, was sitting in his vehicle parked on Madras Street in the company of his daughter and girlfriend.

His sister was a short distance away on the street.

It was reported that a vehicle pulled up with three men.

One of the men was armed and he alighted from the vehicle, pointed his weapon at Singh, dragged him out of his car and into the other vehicle and drove off.

Singh's Liquor Mart at Bournes Road, St James reportedly owned by the young man's father, remained open for business yesterday.
