Trinidad police are investigating five murders between Saturday and early yesterday morning. Police believe gang warfare in the Laventille, Morvant and Diego Martin areas may now be spreading to the Carenage district.
By Gyasi GonzalesDarryl Dehere, 24, and Neville Cadiz, 23, were shot dead in separate incidents within a half an hour of each other.
On Saturday another Carenage young man, Khalid Thomas, was shot dead in front of his friends at Frisco Junction, Haig Street.
Cadiz was murdered yesterday morning at 4am while asleep at his house at Seaview Hill, Carenage, when two men burst through his front door shouting his name.
Cadiz who was with his girlfriend at the time ran out the house.
The gunmen left his girlfriend and ran after him. Minutes later the killers caught up with Cadiz about a stones throw away from his house.
They fired several shots killing him instantly.
About half an hour later Dehere became the next victim.
The Daily Express understands that around 4.30, he too was asleep at his home at Jones Street, Carenage when three gunmen burst into to his house.
Dehere's girlfriend was left alone but the gunmen pumped several rounds into his body killing him instantly.
The killers then fled the scene.
The Daily Express spoke to some friends of both Cadiz and Dehere's yesterday who denied that both men were into anything illegal to warrant murder.
Both the Carenage and St James police said that the incidents were not related.
Dehere's friend also spoke highly about the young man saying that he helped built boats and was, "never a bad person".
Carenage police are continuing enquiries.
