Chutney Soca star Adesh Samaroo lost control of his Frontier jeep early Tuesday morning and crashed into a wall, suffering fractures to his skull and cheekbones, a broken jaw and slight swelling to the brain.
By Anna RamdassHis vocal cords were not affected and when he fully regains his health and strength, he will sing again.
This was stated by Imtiaz Seepersad, Samaroo's close friend and family spokesperson, who told reporters yesterday that Samaroo was still heavily sedated and unconscious at the Community Hospital of Seventh Day Adventists, Cocorite.
Seepersad said Samaroo was not yet out of danger, but he was stable and being closely monitored by doctors.
His body is also a bit bruised but his face, although swollen, is not disfigured. "We know for sure that his voice is intact, his loving 'Rajin' voice is intact," said Seepersad, adding that he had faith that Samaroo's voice was not affected because when he (Samaroo) was at the hospital he was screaming out in pain.
Seepersad said Samaroo was still heavily sedated, his blood level has returned to normal and doctors have been closely monitoring his brain and head.
"His face is still very swollen; as soon as the swelling reduces, his head will be scanned again," said Seepersad.
The need for blood has decreased and doctors are looking at the next few days to begin the waking-up process, he explained.
"His family has been here for him right through, and are continuously praying for his full recovery," he said. "We just want him to get better and start singing again," he continued.
Samaroo has responded to his mother who had been at the hospital from the time he was admitted. "He twitched a little when she was with him and when the doctors were cleaning him up," said Seepersad.
"I expect him to make a full recovery; the entire family is praying and I hope he pulls through," said Samaroo's dad, Kuwar Samaroo.
"We are asking all his fans not to worry but to be happy the way how Adesh does be happy," he continued.
Reigning Chutney Soca Monarch Heeralal Rampartap, who visited Samaroo yesterday at the hospital, described the young chutney star as a brother and one who was always happy.
He said rumours circulating that Samaroo, who sang the hit "Rum Till I Die" had been drinking when the accident occurred, was not believable.
Seepersad, again in defence of Samaroo, said he had neither been speeding nor drinking, but lost control of the vehicle when it skidded.
