According to the Trinidad Guardian Benjai has parted ways with Bunji Garlin and the Asylum Band. According to Benjai, there is no bad feelings with the seperation.
He does however have reservations about how the situation has panned out with managenment over the last three years. He has been the one who has written some major hits for the Asylum crew including the ever popular By The Bar.
The remaining Asylum members are Bunji Garlin, Gail Ann, Ninjitsu and Scarface. The original Asylum members included Benjai, Bunji, 3Suns, Scarface, Jay-Dee and Ital-D and a couple others.
?Change is inevitable, but when people don?t take a stand for what is right, it hurts. I work real hard for the past three years and I wasn?t treated as I should have been.?
Benjai however thinks Bunji could have done a bit more to eleviate the situation to keep the band together. According to Benjai, Bunji was the king and we were his knights, however the king became influenced by outside influences that changed the direction of the group. ?People get tie up with images. What he sings is not what he is. Garlin has nuff love in his heart, but when you have too much love, you don?t know how to stand strong, because you?re afraid of hurting people,? Benjai said.
Budding Benjai also thinks that Scarface is next in line to make his name in music scene. ?In my opinion, Scarface is the next big thing in soca music. Once given the opportunity, he has tremendous potential and can have a huge impact.?
What does Bunji have to say about all this? ?I have no comment to that,? Bunji said. Benjai meanwhile has other projects in the pipeline including work with Machel Montano and Singing Sandra.
