One of reggae's most commercially successful DJ/singer duos, Chaka Demus and Pliers, is looking to resume their hit-making ways soon.

Although Pliers has started some production work on an album without Chaka Demus, they have been working together to release fresh material for their fans worldwide.

"We are very much still a group and still working!" exclaimed Chaka Demus when contacted recently. "I man very nice and happy right now, because we just recorded the tune Missing You and it a take off quickly," he continued.

"We just did an album weh released in Canada too, so we a look forward to some international links. We are still a duo."

Individual talent

Pliers also confirmed that although he was busy producing an album which features him and brother Richie Spice, he and Chaka Demus were still a team.

"We nuh split; it's just that I am working on a production for myself to show people my individual talent," he explained. "Mi just a gwaan do some production for an album with me and mi brother Richie Spice." The album, he noted, was complete. The first single, Emotions, is scheduled for release soon.

It was this album that sparked rumours of the duo splitting, but the two noted that they are looking at putting out another album by the end of 2005.

"Mi nuh want it look like we are competing or anything; we are still working together to do great things in the future," Chaka Demus stated.

Both Chaka Demus and Pliers had budding solo careers during the late 1980s, Chaka Demus hitting with Young Gal Business and Pliers with Bam Bam, before fusing their talents to tremendous success. They scored tremendous crossover success with Murder She Wrote, Twist and Shout, She Don't Let Nobody and Tease Me, among others.
