Legends led the way once again at the Parade of the Bands competition in Port-of-Spain. By the time the five-time Band of the Year winner had crossed the Queen?s Park Savannah stage with its presentation, Freedom, the only question was whether the other bands could catch up...

And by the time Poison, which had the biggest band this year ? reportedly totalling over 11,000 ? there was little to suggest Legends had not done it again.

One new Legends fans was Ebbie Edussuriyea, of Houston, Texas.

After seeing the presentation, Edussuriyea deemed T&T the leading Caribbean country as far as culture was concerned.

?This is what all countries need,? he said, while filming the action.

?This is a true display of unity using culture as a medium.?

Edussuriyea was referring specifically to Legend?s presentation.

He said he had been to several other countries to witness their festivities, but this was his first experience of Carnival in this country, and he assured he would be back next year.

Legend?s choreographed introduction of Freedom opened to Sparrow?s ?Slave.?

Dressed in black and white African costumes, revellers enacted slaves hard at work, toiling away while ?massa? stood nearby watching.

This was quickly followed by an East Indian section complete with traditional uptempo music.

However, it was the merging of the two ethnic groups that brought loud applause from the audience in the packed Grand and North Stands.

Also putting in an appearance was 2004 King of Carnival Curtis Eustace, who portrayed ?Drums of Freedom.?

While the presentations of all the bands were striking, the fancy sailors of D? Boss Belmont Original Sailors, from the section ?Of Golden Memories,? were well worth braving the midday sun for.

A mist of baby powder covered the stage as they jumped and danced in their colourful costumes, which included a life-size headpiece displaying a large champagne bottle and glass and a child rolling a bicycle wheel.

Not to be left out, the blue, black and red devils took to the stage with their expected scary facial expressions and movements.

In the Road March race, Machel Montano?s ?Craziness? put in a late surge to contest Shurwayne Winchester?s ?Look De Band Comin.?

The tally from Monday suggested Winchester would be a runaway winner.

However, Montano made it a close race after yesterday.
