Kenisha Thom did not place in the top five at the Miss World show yesteray because she did not get enough Internet votes.
By Michelle LoubonSo said Peter Elias, national director of Miss World for T&T.
Thom had been a hot contender doing well in various competitions in the run-up to the selection of the top five contenders.
She placed in the top 15 in the Ms Cyber Press Award competition, the equivalent of a Ms Photogenic award.
Thom also placed third in the Miss World Beach Beauty Contest, the Talent Show Competition and the Top Model Sports.
?I am very proud of her and I feel we had a top-five girl who made it to the top 15 simply because I was not able to generate more Internet votes,? Elias said.
?But Miss Peru is a beautiful girl and I?m happy for them.
?I?m hoping next year they don?t do this voting thing.
?I like the long-time way how judges decided based on criteria.?
Elias said he felt if he had a dedicated assistant to raise Internet votes, things would have gone better.
He also felt the Government should decide whether they were going to fully support the local beauty pageant industry.
?The time has come for the Government to say yes or no,? Elias said.
?I have made many proposals to the Government. It?s a good time to ask the Government, ?Do you want it, yes or no?? ?
Thom, a 21-year-old beauty of Lowlands, Tobago, paraded before the judges in a Meiling gown, with make-up by Sacha cosmetics and hair styled by Bally.
