According to the Detective Inspector Lindo the couple advertised illicitly gathered footage, via a website, on which international customers could purchase various local productions. It was the website which inevitably gave them away, when various artists saw their work being advertised for sale, without their knowledge or agreement.
Det. Inspector Lindo says the raid was conducted under a warrant issued under the Copyright Act, which grants the power to seize anything used to breach the Act. As a result, three computers, two laptops, half a dozen VCRs, as well as a number of DVD and CD recorders were removed by the police from the location. Detective Inspector Lindo said along with his haul, the police seized several master DVDs from which replication of material is carried out for sale.
The masters were of several popular Jamaican entertainment shows such as Rebel Salute 2004 and Sting. In a telephone interview with CVM News, head of Flames Production Tony Rebel said he was happy that the operation was conducted and had netted some of the nefarious individuals profitting from the intelectual property of others.
He said that, he had recently travelled to New York and was able to purchase DVDs, both one and two of Rebel Salute 2004, which he had yet to release from his own production company.
