An autopsy performed on the body of six-year-old Steron Eligon remains inconclusive pending a toxicology report.
By Denyse RenneThe autopsy was performed by Dr Hughvon des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday.
Eligon, of Mahabir Courts, Morvant, was found dead by his father Stephen Mathison on Thursday morning.
Speaking with the Guardian yesterday, Mathison, a Ministry of Works employee, said his son attended the Curepe Anglican School and was ?a super intelligent? boy.
?I was his only parent. He was very intelligent and mature for his age,? Mathison said.
Adding that Eligon?s mother died six years ago at the Mt Hope Women?s Hospital, Mathison said, ?This is why it is so hard. I was his only parent.?
Recounting the last moments he spent with his son, Mathison said that at around 11.15 pm on Wednesday, the two were lying in a chair when Eligon said he could not sleep.
?I took him up, put him in bed, patted his back, put the fan on him and went to sleep.
?When I got up, I went to his room and tried to wake him but he was not responding,? Mathison said.
Adding that he called a neighbour and then the EHS, Mathison said from the results of the autopsy he has concluded that his son apparently inhaled a poisonous substance, since there was no evidence of poison in his stomach.
He said he shared a close bond with his son.
?We related like partners.?
Eligon?s funeral takes place at 2 pm on Tuesday at the Fatima RC Church in Curepe.
PC Eric Alleyne of the Morvant CID is continuing investigations.
