Playing with poison is believed to have been the cause of death for a six-year-old boy who was found laying motionless in his bed at the Mahabir Courts, Morvant home of his father.
Steron Eligon, aged six, was served a portion of Chinese food at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday by his father who brought the food home as a treat.
Both the boy and his father consumed the meal following which Eligon was put to bed at around 11 p.m.
The father also went to sleep shortly after but noted that he smelt an insecticide.
According to the police the father reportedly thought nothing of it and went to sleep.
At around seven o'clock yesterday morning he awoke and went in his son's room to awaken him as well.
But found the boy dead.
He contacted both the Emergency Medical Services as well as the Morvant Police Station. A team of officers led by Ag Insp Ancil Coa and including PC Eric Alleyne visited the scene where they conducted enquiries.
Officers also took samples of the Chinese food .
The boy's body was ordered removed to the Port of Spain Mortuary.
When the Express visited the Morvant home yesterday, a close relative of the dead boy said, "I don't want to say anything right now, until the post mortem has been done."
The relative also expressed concern about the Chinese food and although he told the police where the food was bought preferred not to disclose the name of the establishment to the Express.
Several family members, were in a sombre mood as they gathered at the home last light.
A post mortem is scheduled for today which will determine the boy's exact cause of death.
PC Alleyne of the Morvant Police Station is continuing enquiries.
