Winchester, who sings with Traffik, sent revellers in a frenzy when large band Barbarossa crossed the South Quay judging point at 1 pm.
Machel Montano?s ?Craziness? and Destra?s ?Bonnie and Clyde? were his challengers.
Legends was the other big band to pass the judging point at around 2 pm.
Within two hours, spectators got a taste of all aspects of Carnival.
Apart from the two big bands there were the usual devils, midnight robbers and small Red Indian bands.
Among the most colourful bands was Rosalind Gabriel?s Tini Things and her children?s band, Nah Leaving.
Proving that anything is possible at Carnival, the DJ equipment for Everard Scott?s band, Terror in the City, consisted of two speakers, a car stereo and a car battery, all pushed along in a grocery cart.
Living up to the band?s title, the handful of masqueraders looked like a cross-breeding experiment of dinosaurs and gorillas gone awry.
From 3 pm, a number of steelbands were lined up to cross the stage, starting with PCS Starlift.
Among the spectators were US Ambassador Roy Austin and his wife, Glynis Austin.
