CASTRIES, St Lucia (AP) - Former UN General Assembly president Julian Hunte has been reappointed St Lucia's ambassador to the world body, the Caribbean island's government said.

Hunte, 67, is returning to the ambassador post he held from 1998 to 2001 and from 2002 to 2003, the government said Monday. In 2003 he was elected General Assembly president for a year. He stepped down last month.

Hunte replaces Earl Huntley as ambassador. The government said Hunte also vacated his seat in the Senate and will be replaced by attorney Philip La Corbiniere, who was chosen attorney general and justice minister.

Hunte also resigned as external affairs and international trade minister and was replaced in that role by former Attorney General Petrus Comptom.
