The Maraval home of local billionaire and executive chairman of the CL Financial Group, Lawrence Duprey, was raided yesterday by members of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
By Robert AlonzoThe police raid at Duprey?s house on Collens Road, Maraval, came as the probe into allegations of alleged wrongdoing by certain individuals continues.
It was only last Friday that the investigating team, led by the bureau?s head, Sr Supt Maurice Piggott, raided the Point Lisas office of Clico Proman, a subsidiary of CL Financial in charge of its property management, and confiscated top-secret documents.
Sources said a team of investigators went to Duprey?s home around 11 am and conducted a thorough search after obtaining a search warrant.
A spokesman said Duprey was interviewed and some confidential documents were taken by the police.
The source said Duprey co-operated with the lawmen.
Yesterday?s raid at Duprey?s house came more than a month after the same investigators raided the office of the CL Financial conglomerate on St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain.
The source said the raids formed part of the ongoing investigations linked to a London apartment allegedly owned by Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday and occupied by his daughters.
In the raid on Clico Proman, the police seized correspondence between Caribbean Nitrogen Co Ltd, National Gas Co, Panday and the Ministry of Energy between 1997 and 2000, when the UNC was in government.
The source said the probe into the London apartment was expected to be wrapped up soon, after which investigators would seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Panday is before Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls in the Port-of-Spain court charged with three counts of making false declarations of income and assets, and failure to include money held in a London bank account, contrary to the Integrity in Public Life Act.
