Cocaine weighing 1.7 metric tons, and valued at about J$100 million, was seized and five people arrested when a Go-Fast boat was intercepted during an operation in Caribbean waters on Thursday.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the boat's crew, most of whom were Colombians, were apprehended by the crew of the HMS Richmond, which was recently involved in the training of members of the Jamaican security forces. They are being held in custody outside of Jamaica, said the CCN.

"The international operation was in support of the recently launched Operation Kingfish, which has as one of its objectives the disruption of illegal trafficking throughout the central and western Caribbean," said the CCN.
