Reggae: Rodigan revs up at Byker venue

"The voice of Reggae," DJ David Rodigan is promising to keep the temperature high at The Cluny, in Byker on Friday night as part of the Jumpin' Hot Club's Union Roots Festival.

And the DJ is bringing top Studio Roots singer, Earl 16 with him.

Rodigan started his career at Capital Radio and went on to his current home at Kiss FM.

He is renowned throughout the reggae world for his high profile sound clashes and won the gold award for the music broadcaster of the year at the Sony Awards in 2004.

This Friday, Tyneside audiences will be able to catch a live glimpse of his award-winning talents at the Byker venue when Rodigan and Earl 16 - a graduate of the great Studio One label - roll into town.

Reggae fans will need no introduction to Earl 16, who has worked with many of the greats including Lee Scratch Perry, Augustus Pablo and Mad Professor.

He has also enjoyed crossover success with dance outfit Leftfield and hit the UK charts in 1984 with his version of Simply Red's Holding Back the Years.

* David Rodigan Sound System with Earl 16 play The Cluny, Byker on Friday - 8pm until late. Tickets, available on the door are priced at ?10.
